Using data asset to launch new 4.0 services for water supply
The Société du Canal de Provence (SCP) has issued a public tender to leverage data from its industrial assets to launch new 4.0 services in water delivery.
The Société du Canal de Provence (SCP) is a mixed-economy company that serves as both a regional water distribution concessionaire and an engineering firm, as well as a producer of renewable energy. SCP supplies water to 2 million people and has 50,000 clients.

01. Challenge
The Société du Canal de Provence aimed to shift from manual readings to remote monitoring to improve billing accuracy, prevent water leaks, and offer agritech services for smarter irrigation.
02. Approach
JEMS was chosen for its Data Centric approach to build a data platform integrating 70,000 IoT devices and internal systems, enabling 28 use cases powered by Microsoft Azure technologies and scheduled to begin delivering in Q3 2022.
03. Impact
Ongoing Missions:
- Implementation of a secure architecture
- Ingestion of telemetry data (IoT) and SCP’s information system data
- Modeling of the data assets
- Creation of datasets and APIs, followed by exposure for use cases
- Creation of dashboards for modeling water channels
01. Challenge
The Société du Canal de Provence wanted to transition from annual manual readings to a remote monitoring system similar to Linky meters.
This will enable more accurate billing, reduce water leaks, and provide agritech services to enhance parcel irrigation based on weather conditions.
02. Approach
JEMS was selected for this project due to its Data Centric model.
The data platform will capture all 70,000 connected devices along with data from their information system. JEMS will integrate the complete IoT data flow into a data production and exploitation factory.
Twenty-eight use cases are planned, with the first delivery scheduled for Q3 2022. The technologies used include Microsoft Azure, Azure Data Lake Gen2, Azure Data Factory, Purview for the data catalog, Databricks, Power BI, and NomoSense for IoT.
